"60's and early 70's"

At one time,turtles were the most popular of all reptiles and amphibian pet species.In the 60's and early 70's you cant imagine going to any pet store without finding a tank full of Red-Eared Slider Turtle.you could buy one for alittle bit of money which included a small Goldfish tank.Soon something happened that turned this around.Salmonella ,the disease started by this turtle attacked.People where aware of this and thought twice before getting one .Then snakes and lizards took over the turtles place at number one!
